Wildcats Advance in Girls Softball Sectional

HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – Jasper, Mitchell, and Heritage Hills were first round winners Monday in the opening round of the IHSAA Class 3A Softball Sectional at Southridge’s Lady Raider Field.

After Mitchell downed Washington, 8-2, in the opener, and Heritage Hills edged Pike Central in an 8 inning thriller, Coach Matt Pryor’s Lady Wildcats blanked Vincennes Lincoln, 5-0, scoring all of their runs in a wild third inning.

Jasper, who managed only three hits off Lincoln pitcher Jade Montgomery, broke a scoreless tie with the five-run outbreak in the top of the third.

Katelyn Hedinger doubled for the Lady Cats, Paige Werner and Erin Terwiske each had singles. Olivia Knies went the distance in the circle pitching a 5-hit shutout and striking out seven.

Mitchell will play Southridge at 6pm in Wednesday’s semi-finals, Jasper and Heritage Hills will meet in the second semi-final game.
