Northeast Dubois Wins Track Sectional; Jasper First in Tennis Sectional

The Dubois Jeeps turned in a balanced performance Thursday to win the IHSAA boys track and field sectional at Alumni Stadium in Jasper. Dubois won four of the 16 events and added four seconds, five thirds, one fourth, two fifths, two sixths, three sevenths, and eight seconds for 129 and a half points to 112 for runner-up Jasper. The Wildcats had three firsts, four seconds, one third, three fourths, four fifths, three sixths, one seventh, and two eights. Jasper’s 400 meter relay team was disqualified. Dubois blue ribbon winners were Evan Betz in the 110 meter hurdles and the long jump, Nick Goller in the shot put, and Linne Tristan, Betz, Ivan Smith, and Calvin Sander in the 400 meter relay. Jasper blue ribbons were won by Reid Milligan in the 300 meter hurdles, Noah Mehringer, Corbin Kaiser, Mulligan, and Elliot Prange in the 1600 meter relay, and Caleb Dosch, Henry Love, Tristan Backer, and Kaiser in the 3200 meter relay. Forest Park’s Noah Braunecker won the blue in the discus throw. Only one sectional record was broken. Aaron Pierrard of Perry Central set the new mark in the 1600 meter run with a tie of 4:24.8, breaking his own record of 4:26.4, set last year. Second place finisher Logan Ayer of Heritage Hills also broke the old record with a time of 4:26.39.

Jasper again swept all three singles matches and both doubles to win the sectional title and advance to the regional tournament. The Lady Wildcats produced a near-perfect performance with three 6-0, 6-0 shutouts.

The Lady Vikings won four of the five matches and eliminated the Lady Jeeps at Loogootee. Northeast Dubois’ only win was by Jenna Stemle in number one singles. She will advance in the singles tournament.

BASEBALL

Loogootee 6 Northeast Dubois 1

Loogootee’s Frank Bratton struck out 11 and allowed Dubois five hits and one earned run as the Lions won at Dubois, 6-1. Ben Blackwell led the winners’ offense with a 4 for 5 effort, including a double and RBI.

Jasper 12 Bloomfield 2

The top-ranked Wildcats scored three runs in the first inning and eight more in the fourth and then coasted to a 12-2 six-inning victory over Bloomfield at Ruxer Field. Austin Alles, Tyler Haskins, Tyler Begle, and Craig Shepherd combined to pitch a four-hitter. Jasper pounded out 14 hits, including three by Haskins, and two each by Zach Keusch, Ben Moore, and Gavin Lorey. Alles had one hit and three RBI, Haskins, Moore, and Gavin each had two. The Wildcats are now 23 and 1 for the season, the Cardinals fall to 3 and 16.

Southridge 182 Wood Memorial 194

Southridge, led by medalist Mitch Steinkamp’s 39, posted a 12-stroke win over host Wood Memorial Thursday at the Oakland City Golf Course.

Jasper 167 Heritage Hills 172

Jasper’s Reid Lorey won medalist honors with a 36 as the Wildcats defeated Heritage Hills, 172-167, on a damp chilly day Thursday at Sultan’s Run. Carson Pierce followed with a 41 and Carson Pierce with a 41. Corey Teaford was low for the Patriots with a 39.

Forest Park 189, South Knox 189, Tecumseh 244  (Forest Park wins tie-breaker on 5th player score)

Forest Park posted its 24th victory of the boys golf season Thursday on a cold, damp Boonville Country Club Course. There were numerous penalty strokes in the triangular match, played in 60 degree weather. The Rangers survived with a score of 189, which was matched by South Knox. Forest Park won the tie-breaker on the fifth player score. Tecumseh finished a distant third at 244. South Knox’s Foley was the medalist, one stroke ahead of Forest Park’s Zach Wendholt. The Rangers are now 24 and 12 for the season.
