The Jasper Wildcats won the Big 8 Conference Golf Tournament Saturday on a damp Christmas Lake course with a team score of 306, comfortably ahead of runner Vincennes’ total of 327. Mt. Vernon finished third, following by Washington, Boonville, and Princeton. Jasper’s Reid Lorey won medalist honors with an even par 72 on rounds of 37-35. The Wildcats’ Bryan Hagen chipped in with a 5-over-par 77, followed by Josh Krempp at 78 and Carson Pierce at 79.

Heritage Hills won the 2015 Pocket Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday at Christmas Lake. The Patriots finished 10 strokes ahead of runnerup Gibson Southern, 324 to 334. Forest Park finished fifth, Southridge was sixth. Heritage Hills’ Corey Teaford was medalist with a 73.

Tom Miles Invitational Tourney at Washington

Washington 5 Northeast Dubois 4

The host Hatchets scored 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead and then held off a late game rally by the Jeeps for the one-run victory. Dubois scored solo runs in the sixth and seven innings, but the comeback fell short. The Jeeps outhit the winners, 8 to 6. Eric Dodson was 2 for 2, and Jaxson Denu 2-4 with a run scored and one RBI. Evan Bauer and Reid Haas each added doubles. Jeep starting pitcher Peyton Hurst went five innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs and striking out four. Alex Harder pitched one inning, allowing no hits, one run, and striking out one.

Northeast Dubois 6 Austin 5 (Consolation Game)

Northeast Dubois salvaged a victory for the day with a 6-5 win over Austin in the consolation game.The Jeeps opened up a 6-1 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and then held off a four-run seventh inning rally by the Eagles. Dubois outhit Austin, 8 to 4. Nolan Rasche and Drew Jacob each had a double, single, one run scored, and one RBI. Eric Dodson was 1 for 2 with two RBI. Alex Harder, who pitched the first three innings allowing one hit, one earned run, and three walks, was the winning pitcher. Jaxon Drew pitched 3 and a third frames, allowing three hits, two earned runs, and five walks while striking out three. Jacob Gress walked two in third-innings innings of work, but allowed no hits and halted the Austin comeback.

Jasper’s Hall of Fame Classic baseball tournament was cancelled because of the weekend rain.

SOFTBALL

Southridge 6 Evansville Reitz 5 (6 innings, rain)

A solo run in the top of the sixth inning proved to be the winning run as Southridge edged Reitz, 6-5, in a game halted after six innings because of rain. McKeough had a double to led the Lady Raider hitting, Mundy was the winning pitcher.

Northeast Dubois 10 Mitchell 5

Dubois scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to wipe out a 4-2 Mitchell lead enroute to a 10-5 win over the Lady Bluejackets. The Lady Jeeps sealed the win with three more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. Talyn Friedman led the winners with a double, two singles, and two RBI. Carly Terwiske added a double, single, and two RBI, Kendra Jacob a double and one RBI, and Chloe Johson a single and one RBI. Jacob pitched all seven innings and got the win, striking out five. Dubois is 5 and 15 for the season.

TENNIS

Jasper 5 Gibson Southern 0

Jasper won all three singles matches and both doubles en route to a 5-0 sweep of Gibson Southern Saturday, in a match halted a number of times and played on a wet court. The Lady Wildcats breezed through four of the matches. The only close match was number 2 doubles where Jasper’s Mallory Ahlbrand and Olivia Yarbrough survived, 6-7, 6-1, and then a 10-6 tiebraker.
