BASEBALL

Northeast Dubois 6 Vincennes Rivet 5

Reid Haas and two hits and 2 RBI and Jaden Brosmer added two hits, one RBI, and scored one run to lead the Jeeps to victory Thursday at Vincennes. NE Dubois took a 3-0 lead in the second inning before Rivet pulled even, 5-5, after six innings. The Jeeps pushed across a solo run in the top of the seventh and then held on for the win. Jacob Gress and Reid Haas shared the pitching for the winners. Gress pitched the first four frames allowing five hits and two runs while striking out four. Haas pitched the final three innings, allowing three unearned runs, four hits, and striking out four.

Forest Park 1, Jasper 0 (Jayvees)

The Rangers pushed across the winning run in the top of the sixth to win at Forest Park. Each team had six hits.

SOFTBALL

Jasper 2 Gibson Southern 1

The Lady Wildcats managed only one hit off the Lady Titans’ Jaime Nurrenbern, who struck out eight and allowed no earned runs. Jasper scored their only two runs in the top of the fifth on a two-out walk to Lindsey Mehringer and a long fly ball by Hannah Colvin. The ball landed in the Gibson Southern leftfielder’s glove, but the glove hit the fence, the ball popped out of the glove and over the fence, scoring Colvin and pinch runner Emma Hopf, who was running for Mehringer. It was ruled a four base error. Olivia Knies went the distance for Jasper, scattering six hits, struck out five and walked three. The win was the 20th of the season for the Lady Cats. Gibson Southern won the jayvee game, 2 to 1.

Pike Central 14 Forest Park 5

The game was tied 4-4 after three innings of play at Bretzville before the Chargers took the lead for good with two runs in the top of fourth and capped things off with one in the sixth and seven in the seventh for a 14 to 5 win. Forest Park outhit the winners, 12 to 1. Katelyn Roos was 4-for-4 and Taylor Nordhoff 3-for-4 to lead the Rangers’ hitting. Pike Central also won the jayvee game, 3 to 1.

Tecumseh 16 Southridge 2

Tecumseh pounded out 16 hits and took advantage of six Southridge errors and defeated the Raiders, 16 to 2 in PAC action. The Lady Braves scored seven runs in the first inning and then wrapped things up with a nine-run fourth and coasted to victory. Webb and Duncan each had a home run and double for the winners. Tecumseh outhit Southridge, 16 to 3.

GIRLS TENNIS

Thursday was Senior Night at Southridge and all six Lady Raider seniors played and won all five varsity matches. Cake, cookies, and soda were served after the match in honor of the six seniors. The Jayvees followed the varsity sweep with a five victory shuout.

Jasper 4 Castle 1

Jasper prevailed in number 2 and 3 singles and both doubles Thursday, defeating Castle, 4-1 on the Lady Wildcats’ home court. The only loss was in number 1 singles where Maria Lueken lost a hard-fought match to her Castle challenger, 4-6, 6-7. Jasper will play two makeup matches Saturday, their last two regular season matches, Gibson Southern at 9 a.m. and Bloomington North at 11:30. The Lady Cats will then host the IHSAA Sectional next week in the Ed Yarbrough Tennis Complex.

Jasper’s Josh Krempp was medalist. He birdied the 9th hole, erasing a double-bogey on hole number 8 and finished with a one-under-par 35, leading the Wildcats to a 22 stroke victory, 153 to 175, over Forest Park at Christmas Lake. Southridge finished third at 183. Perry Central competed but had only three golfers and no team score.

Host Princeton won the Big 8 Track and Field Meet Thursday. Jasper finished second and claimed five blue ribbons, two by Reid Milligan. Corbin Kaiser set a new school record in the 800 meter run with a clocking of 2:00.74.

BLUE CHIP CONFERENCE TRACK & FIELD MEET AT DUBOIS

The host Jeeps won seven individual events and the 400 and 1600 meter relays enroute to 42 point win over runnerup South Knox. Calvin Sander won the 100 and 200 meter dashes and ran a leg on the winning 400 relay team. Other Jeep blue ribbon winners were Luke Kerstiens (1600), Evan Betz (300 hurdles), Kobi Knies (discus), Nick Goller (shot put), and Bryce Schepers 400). Betz, Tristan Linne, and Ivan Smith joined Sander on the winning 400 relay team. Jace Knies and Jonas Nissan joined Schepers and Kerstiens on the winning 1600 meter relay  team. Isiah Stafford of South Knox was voted the meet’s most valuable player. He won the 110 hurdles and long jump and finished second to the Jeeps’ Sander in the 200 meter dash.
