Johh H. “Nappa John” Wininger, 80, Jasper

John-Wininger-1430655850John H.”Napa John” Wininger, 80, of Jasper, died Friday (May 1) at his home. He was born in French Lick May 6, 1934, to Rolla C. and Marie G. (Gramelspacher) Wininger.

John was a U.S. Army veteran. He was owner of the Napa parts store in Mount Vernon, Illinois, for 20 years and then retired. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, the Mount Vernon Elks Club, and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid collector of John Wayne memorabilia and loved the outdoors.

He is survived by one nephew, Craig Houchin, Jasper; several cousins; beloved dog; close friends and caregivers Pam Graham, Alecia Hughey, and Phillip Clark and Leigha, Mt. Vernon, and Dana Smith and Marshall, Maryvillle, Tennessee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Wininger.

Services at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Rend Lake College and Hospice of Good Samaritan.
