DCSD: Jasper Woman Was Driving Impaired With Child In Her Car When It Crashes (AUDIO)

Rebecca L. Long

ST. HENRY (NNDC) – A Jasper woman was arrested for drunk driving Wednesday after her vehicle crashed along U. S. 231 just south of the Dubois County Regional Airport.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 32-year old Rebecca Long told deputies she was attempting to pull her car off to the side of the road so her son could “use the bathroom” at about 3:30pm, but says the car crashed striking a ditch.   She was not hurt and neither was her three-year old son.

Deputies at the scene say Long appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and possibly other unknown substances.

DCSD says Long failed field sobriety tests at the scene.   She was taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper where her blood alcohol level tested .24% (three times over the legal limit to drive in Indiana).

DCSD Sgt. Stuart Wilson says the amount of alcohol and a child in the car with Long makes this arrest is a bit troubling…

Long is charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated causing Endangerment and as you heard from Sgt. Wilson is a Level 6 felony.
