INDIANAPOLIS (Local Sources) – Sister Mary Lee Hillenbrand of the Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand was one of 14 women honored for her artwork by Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann.

Ellspermann sponsors the Hoosier Women Artists contest now in its eighth year.

Hillenbrand’s watercolor painting is titled “Iris Prismatica.”  The painting will be on display in Ellspermann’s office for the next year.    Ellspermann says, “I am honored to fill my office with artwork created by outstanding and talented Hoosier women.”

The Lt. Governor is a Ferdinand native.   Ellspermann is one of the contest’s judges along with Dr. Laura Holzman who is the assistant professor of art history and museum studies at IUPUI.

The contest is held to recognize Women’s History Month.  It celebrates a variety of artistic interests including drawing, painting and photography.

Visitors to the State Capitol can view the artwork in Room 333 during normal business hours.

Ellspermann has posted pictures of all 14 selected pieces of art as well as Wednesday’s Statehouse ceremony.
