HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – Miller-Valentine Group and TRI-CAP are proud to announce, in conjunction with their partner organizations, the groundbreaking of The Lofts at St. Joseph’s, a brand new community being built exclusively for adults 55 and over.

The ceremony will take place on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 10:30 am at 1900 Medical Arts Drive in Huntingburg.

Miller-Valentine Group and TRI-CAP, along with their partners; the Indiana Housing Community Development Authority, Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis, City of Huntingburg, Dubois County and Old National Bank; are developing The Lofts at St. Joseph’s as a part of the Federal Affordable Housing Tax Credit Program. The development will involve the renovation and adaptive reuse of a portion of the former St. Joseph’s Hospital; as well as a brand new building on the adjacent land.

We are honored to have several distinguished speakers at this event, including: Larry Bucshon, US Congressman; Tonya Brothers-Bridge, Chief of Staff, Office of Indiana Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann; Denny Spinner, Mayor, City of Huntingburg; Joyce Fleck, Executive Director, TRI-CAP; Alan Rakowski, Tax Credit Manager, Indiana Housing Community Development Authority; Mike Recker, Senior AHP Compliance Analyst, Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis; and Thomas Krodel, Regional President, Old National Bank.

Joyce Fleck, Executive Director of TRI-CAP, says “While our agency is better known for helping people than creating housing developments, we have a long history and passion for enriching the lives of our local seniors. TRI-CAP is excited to begin our first partnership with Miller Valentine and their staff of experts, to build our area’s newest senior living community.”

The Lofts at St. Joseph’s will be the first tax credit development tailored to adults 55 and over in Dubois County. This community demonstrates the value of the federal housing tax credit program on numerous levels. Primarily, it delivers high quality affordable housing for adults 55 and over in Huntingburg who currently have limited or no affordable housing options. The Lofts at St. Joseph’s will generate over $3.9 million for the local economy; this includes wages for workers and profits for local proprietors, small businesses, and corporations. In addition, the project will create 68 new jobs predominantly in the construction sector for local contractors and sub-contractors.
