Joan M. Giesler, 71, Jasper

Joan Giesler editedJoan M. Giesler, 71, of Jasper, died Tuesday (March 24) at her home. She was born in Jasper March 15, 1944, to Dennis J. and Virginia (Gramelspacher) McDermott. She married William J. Giesler November 26, 1966, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

Joan was a retired registered nurse, real estate broker, and rental property entrepreneur. She became a nurse‚Äôs aide at age 16, working at Memorial Hospital. She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Evansville in 1965 and continued her profession in local facilities for over 50 years, retiring from Brookside Village Skilled Facility in 2012. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Blessed Virgin Sodality. She enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, playing cards, and reading.

She is survived by her husband, William J. Giesler; two sons, Jay Giesler and wife Dawn, Huntingburg, and Chad Giesler and wife Kathy, Jasper; five grandchildren, Connor, Dillon, Dakota, Madison, and Jaylyn Giesler; and three brothers, Michael McDermott and wife Martha, Rochester Hills, Michigan, Ronald McDermott and wife Elizabeth, Fresno, California, and Gregory McDermott and wife Laurel, Downington, Pennsylvania.

Services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church with entombment following in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The Blessed Virgin Sodality will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
