JASPER (NNDC) – A Jasper man is now facing a Level 3 felony count of aggravated battery.

Jasper police say the incident that led to the arrest of 48-year old Michael Chapin happened at Chapin’s apartment in the 100 block of West 12th Street at about 1:15am Sunday.

JPD says a female victim is the one who called police.

Police said the victim was able to leave the apartment and was also able to talk with officers before going to Memorial Hospital to be examined and treated for her wounds.

JPD says the victim was treated for a severed tendon in her right wrist and minor injuries.

Chapin initially did not respond when police knocked on his door, nor did he answer phone calls made by officers in an attempt to make contact with him.

Police left the apartment for short time. When they returned, police made contact with Chapin and he was taken into custody.

If found guilty, a level 3 felony carries a possible prison term of between three and twenty years, and a fine of up to $10,000.00.
