JoAnn Prechtel, 76, Jasper

Prechtel, JoAnnJoAnn Prechtel, 76, of Jasper, died Saturday (March 21), at her home. She was born in Jasper July 19, 1938, to Edward and Gertrude (Neuhoff) Stenftenagel. She married Edwin Prechtel October 9, 1994, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper.

JoAnn was a 1956 graduate of Jasper High School. She retired from the bureau of motor vehicles where she had worked for many years. She also worked as a waitress. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Blessed Virgin Sodality, and the Red Hat Society. JoAnn was an avid walker and a country music fan.a

She is survived by her husband, Edwin Prechtel; two daughters, Julie Hopf and husband Mike, and Barb Hopf and husband Tim, all of Huntingburg; two sons, Mark Lichlyter and wife Rose, Jasper, and Gary Lichlyter and Tiffany, Lemont, Illinois; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lawrence “Larry” and Donald “Dutch” Stenftenagel, both of Jasper.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Jerome “Dimp” Stenftenagel, one sister, Dorothy, who died in infancy, and daughter-in-law JoAnn E. Lichlyter.

Services at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Blessed Virgin Sodality will hold a rosary service at the funeral home at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or to a favorite charity.
