JPD Looking For Hit & Run Vehicle; Local Man Arrested After Driving Into Private Driveway & Yard (BLOTTER)

JASPER (NNDC) – Jasper police say they are looking for a red pickup truck or SUV that was involved in a traffic accident along Third Avenue Monday afternoon.

JPD says 17-year old Nicole Nord of Jasper was driving northbound on Third Avenue and stopped at the Second Avenue traffic signal.

She told police that when she stopped the SUV she was driving, a red pickup truck with a camper shell or an SUV ran into the rear of her vehicle.

Nord says she then pulled over into the German American Bank parking lot, but the suspect vehicle turned east on Second Avenue and left the scene.

JPD says the suspect vehicle will have damage to itsfront end.

Jasper Man Turns Into Private Drive & Ends Up In Jail

JASPER (NNDC) – A Jasper man was arrested Sunday morning after he turned his car into a private drive and it got stuck in adjoining yard.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 24-year old John Eckerle of Jasper turned the car he was driving into a private gravel drive in the 4800 block of West Division Road.

DCSD says Eckerle drove about 1,150 feet before the car went off the side of the driveway and into a yard where it got stuck.

DCSD deputies took Eckerle to Memorial Hospital for a chemical test. It was determined he had a blood alcohol content of .21%

DCSD says Eckerle also tested positive for THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol is the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis) and amphetamine.

Eckerle was charged with a Level 5 felony count of operating while intoxicated and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

DCSD says there was no damage to Eckerle’s car, and damage to the yard was not known.

Tip Leads To Loogootee Man Arrested For Drunk Driving

JASPER (NNDC) – A Loogootee man was arrested for drunk driving Saturday afternoon.

Jasper police say 47-year old Donnie Heggen was arrested after police responded to a call of an intoxicated man driving away from a location on 9th Street.

JPD says a witness able to give officers a description of the car Heggen was driving as well as the car’s license plate number.

Police located the car and stopped the car a short time later in the 4000 block of Mannheim Road.

JPD says Heggen’s blood alcohol level tested .14%.

Wheel Comes Off Pickup Truck; Strikes Two Other Vehicles

JASPER (NNDC) – Three vehicles were damaged when a single tire came off one of them and struck the other two Saturday afternoon.

Shortly before 3:30pm, Jasper police say 53-year old John Farley of Loogootee was driving northbound on U.S. 231 in his pickup truck when the truck’s driver’s side front wheel came off.

JPD says the wheel rolled into the southbound lane where it struck an SUV driven by Karen Meyer of Washington.

After striking the SUV, the wheel then bounced back into the northbound lane where it struck a struck a second SUV. That SUV was driven by 24-year old Jessica Gist of Haysville.

JPD says Farley told officers he had the truck’s tires rotated recently and that he believes the lug nuts were not put back on the wheel properly.
Damage was estimated at $1,500 to Farley’s truck and about $1000 to each of the SUVs.

FERDINAND (NNDC) – A semi-tractor ended up in local resident’s yard Saturday morning.

Ferdinand police say 27-year old Damion Hall of Georgia was attempting to turn his truck onto West 5th Street when and its back wheels ended up in a yard in the 500 block of Missouri Street.

The incident happened shortly after 9am Saturday.

Damage to the yard was estimated at less than $1,000. The truck was not damaged.

Huntingburg Man Jailed After Crashing his Car and Leaving the Scene

DUFF (NNDC) – Indiana State Police says they responded to an early Friday morning report of an abandoned vehicle on South 600 West near West 300 South just north of Duff.

ISP arrived on scene at about 1:10am and found a 1992 Chevrolet Camaro along the east side of South 600 West. The car (pictured) had heavy damage including broken windows, and flat tires.

ISP also says the car had struck a drainage pipe and a utility pole, damaging the pole and severing its copper ground cable.

Police later found that the registered owner the car was 40 year old Bruce Dotterweich of Huntingburg. Police also learned that Dotterweich had been driving at the time of the crash, but had left the scene.

Dotterweich was found at his residence on North 750 West. He was placed under arrest for Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash (a Class B Misdemeanor).
