Accident Lands Jasper Man In Jail On Several Drug Charges

HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – A Thursday morning accident southwest of Huntingburg injured the driver who later found himself in jail.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 26-year old Raul Rangel, Jr. of Jasper was traveling eastbound on West 600 South at about 10:40am. DCSD says Rangel’s car went left of center in a curve west of Old Indiana 64 and then ran off the northside of the road and struck a culvert.

DCSD says the car continued on and struck an earth embankment.

DCSD says Rangel refused treatment at the scene but was transported to Memorial hospital by DCSD deputies where he was treated for abrasions to his head and face. DCSD says Rangel’ car was a total loss.

He taken by deputies after being charged with Operating While Impaired Under a Controlled Substance. The charge is a Level 6 felony as Rangel’s has a prior conviction for the same offense.

He was also charged with Possession of Marijuana under 30 grams (Class B misdemeanor), Possession of Paraphernalia (A misdemeanor), Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance (A misdemeanor), and Possession of a Legend Drug (A misdemeanor).
