James Anthony “Jack” Hauser, 79, Santa Claus

Jack HauserJames Anthony “Jack” Hauser, 79, of Santa Claus, died Tuesday (March 10) at his home. He was born in Schnellville March 9, 1936, to Jacob and Cornelia (Troxler) Hauser. He married Mary G. “Gerry” Mehling May 4,1957, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.

Jack worked in various positions at the Western and Southern Insurance Company in Tell City and Terre Haute, and later with the Sycamore Insurance Company in Terre Haute. He was involved in a number of philanthropic and community organizations. He was president of Big Brother/ Big Sisters of Vigo County, president and senator of the Ferdinand Jaycees, and president of the Central Eastside Merchants. He was a member of Rotary Club International, Optimist Club, Santa Claus Knights of Columbus, and St. Nicholas Parish. He enjoyed golf, fishing trips with his brothers, traveling, woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gerry Hauser; three daughters, Beth Fields and husband Dave, Terre Haute, Laura Reeder and husband Jeff, Avon, and Amy Keen and husband Chris, Brazil; two sons, Jeff Hauser and wife Patti, Terre Haute, and Glenn Hauser and wife Mary, Brownsburg; 10 grandchildren, Mikayla Fields, Emily Wallace, Adam, Lucy, and Helen Hauser, Jared, Evan, and Katie Reeder, Hannah Clark, and Logan Keen; one great-grand daughter, Evelyn Wallace; five brothers, Dan Hauser and wife Rosie, Schnellville, Fred Hauser and wife Eileen, Ferdinand, Bill Hauser and wife Ruth, St. Anthony, Kenny Hauser and wife Connie, Bluffton, and Steve Hauser and wife Eileen, Schnellville; two sisters, Mary Sue Johnson and husband Gary, Santa Claus, and Judy Hauser, Ferdinand; several nieces and nephews; and a loyal companion, “Mazie.”

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stuart and Ricky Hauser.

Services at 10 a.m. (CST) Saturday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Santa Claus with burial following in Saint Ferdinand Church Cemetery in Ferdinand. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand, and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Church or to a favorite charity.
