Gervase H. “Jerp” Becher, 86, Jasper

JerpGervase H. “Jerp” Becher, 86, of Jasper, died Friday (March 6) at his son’s residence in Casa Grande, Arizona. Jerp was born in St. Meinrad September 26, 1928, to Robert and Frances (Ruxer) Becher. He married Phyllis “Jane” Schaaf October 30, 1952, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. She died February 21, 2013.

Jerp retired from the Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home where he worked for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Jasper Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post No. 147, VFW Post No. 673, and the Ireland Sportsman Club. He served in the United States Navy. He enjoyed card playing, boating, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by three sons, Glenn Becher and wife Barb, Casa Grande, Arizona, Phil Becher and wife Maria, Jasper, and Dean Becher and wife Jacque, Evansville; seven grandchildren, Chris Becher and wife Charlene, Abby Donahue and husband Chris, Brittany Becher-Dunlop and husband Barr, Kelli Bohannon and husband Craig, and Dustin, Brad, and Allison Becher; four great-grandchildren, Haley and Samantha Becher, Ashlynn Bohannon, and Michael Donahue; two step-great-grandchildren, Bryce and Caleigh Bohannon; and two sisters, Dottie Brosmer and Mert Stallwood, both of Jasper.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Becher, and one sister, Anne Krodel.

Services at 10 a.m. Friday, March 20, at St. Joseph’s Church with burial following at a later date. V.F.W. Post No. 673 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Becher-Kluesner downtown chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to Gervase and Phyllis’s endowment at St. Joseph’s Church.
