IRELAND (NNDC/Local Sources) – Céad Míle Fáilte (one hundred thousand welcomes)!

This is the slogan for the 2015 St. Patrick’s Celebration taking place in Ireland, Indiana.

With a name like “Ireland” for the town, of course they are going to give one heck of a celebration for the week of St. Patrick’s Day. This town does not disappoint with a long list of off-the-wall activities and fun events taking place in this charming town.

Festivities are already underway including tonight’s “Light Up Ireland.” Tonight, many residents and businesses “Fliped the Switch” to all the lighted decorations throughout the town.

Saturday and Sunday, March 14-15, is when most of the festivities take place; however, before then events include a Marionette Show, Miss Shamrock Queen Pageant, Tator Tot (Baby) photo contest, cornhole tournament, and a concert by the talented Celebration Singers.

Prepare to start your day off on that Saturday with an “Irish Trot” (5k Walk/Run), or just enjoy the delicious St. Patty’s breakfast and “For Patty’s Sake” bake-off. O’Blarney Kids’ Games will be taking place in the morning until noon as well as an art and crafts show.

If you think it’s not a St. Patrick’s celebration without green beer, Ireland Indiana agrees. Join in on the “Toast to the O’Blarney Drop” with a schooner/mug lifting contest at the Chicken Place Restaurant and be sure to enjoy some green beer at the Shamrock Pub. As you enjoy your refreshments, there will be plenty of food with the “Backyard Barbecue Contest”, “O-Eatin Spuds” potato chip speed-eating contest, and chicken and dumplings sold by the gallon.

Be sure to welcome the new “Mayor for a Day” which will be announced at noon. Other fun events taking place on Saturday include “Irish O’Ducky Race,” “Irish Road Rally,” and the “O’Beard Contest.” Saturday evening enjoy a buffet meal with Irish music with the Guilderoy Byrne Band and a silent auction.

On Sunday, food and events continue. The St. Patrick’s celebration ends in the early evening after the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. However, come back on March 28th for the Homemade Wine Tasting and Cheese Party.
