2005 Lady Jeep State Runners-Up To Be Honored Saturday Night

DUBOIS (NNDC) – The 2005 Northeast Dubois IHSAA state runner-up girls basketball team will be honored during a special ceremony prior to the Dubois boys’ game with Wood Memorial Saturday night at the Dubois gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 o’clock.

The 2004-2005 girls team had an outstanding season capped off  a trip to Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to play for the 1A state championship.

To reach the state tournament the Lady Jeeps overcame a six point deficit in the closing moments of their semistate game with Bloomfield at the Huntingburg Memorial gym.

In the state championship game the Lady Jeeps, Kurt Gutgsell’s radio call was played for promo’s for years to come, “the Jeeps win the game the Jeeps win the game!”

These Lady Jeeps played a hard fought game in the state final at Conseco Fieldhouse against back to back state champion Tri-Central.

After a vigorous effort in the closing seconds of the championship, missing the final two shots of the game, they lost 47-46.  These girls finished the season 20-6 and State Runner-Up.

Players on the 2004-05 Lady Jeeps team were seniors Codi Bauer Everman and Leigh-Ann Kluesner; juniors Whitney Hall. Heather Hasenour Schwinghamer, Amanda Jones, Erin Knies Terwiske; sophomores Ranzi Kempf Stoelting, Lauren Stemle, Megan Stemle Lueken, Kirby Wineinger, Tia Wineinger and freshmen, Kamille Bauer, Abbie Friedman, Sabrina Eisenhut Harris. Allison Matheis Pund, and Gia Terwiske.

The team’s managers were Kayla Kleinhelter Buchta, Nicole Schepers Warner and Jordan Hamke Simmons.

Alan Matheis was the head coach assisted by Gary Bair and Roger Elliott.
