FERDINAND (FPD) – The Dubois County Sheriff’s and Ferdinand Police departments are asking for the public’s help in locating a damaged car that struck an FPD Jeep Cherokee that was parked near 17th and Virginia Streets Sunday morning. Police say the car then fled the scene.

DCSD says they are looking for a slate blue/grey 1998 or 1999 Toyota Avalon four-door passenger car. DCSD says this car struck the FPD SUV along Virginia Street near 17th at 1:50am.

Police say the suspect vehicle should have heavy damage. DCSD says part of the Avalon’s front bumper on the passenger side will be missing. The car was also leaking fluids as it fled the scene. Meanwhile, the FPD was heavily damaged and was put out of service.

JASPER WOMAN ARRESTED FOR DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED

JASPER (JPD) – A Jasper woman is facing a Driving While Intoxicated and other charges after the SUV she was driving Sunday afternoon collided with another vehicle Sunday afternoon near 6th and St. John streets.

Jasper police say they received a call about an intoxicated female sitting inside a parked car on St. John south of 6th Street.

Police say just before they arrived on the scene, the car, driven by 42-year old Elizabeth Backer of Jasper started to drive north on St. John and pulled into the path of an SUV driven by 32-year old Jason Dilger of Evansville and the two vehicles collided. A witness says Backer disregarded the stop sign at that intersection.

Police say Backer’s SUV struck the curb on the north side of 6th Street and then proceeded south across 6th and into the path of the second vehicle and the two collided.

No one was hurt. Backer was cited by JPD for Driving While Intoxicated, Driving Left of Center and Failure to Yield.

THREE SUFFER MINOR INJURIES IN “OFF-SET” HEAD-ON COLLISION SOUTH OF ST. ANTHONY

St. Anthony (DCSD) – No one was seriously injured in an off-set head-on accident early Saturday afternoon on Club Road south of St. Anthony.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says three people did suffer minor injuries in the 12:38pm accident.

DCSD says 22-year old Shoneen Stenftenagel of rural St. Anthony was driving south on Club Road about a half-mile south of Indiana 64 when she started to black-out.   DCSD says Stenftenagel’s car went left of center and collided with another car nearly head-on.

The second vehicle driven by 19-year old Austin Kempf of Bretzville.

DCSD says Kempf’s car continued on after the collision and ran off the west side of the road and overturned in a large ditch.

Meanwhile, Stenftenagel’s car stopped on the roadway.

Both drivers and a passenger in Kempf’s car, 19-year old Ethan Knust of St. Marks, suffered minor cuts and scrapes.  All three refused to be transported from the scene by ambulance.

Both vehicles were a total loss.

Stenftenagel was cited by DCSD for driving left of center.

MAN FOUND SLUMPED OVER IN VAN IS AWAKENED AND TAKEN TO JAIL FOR O.W.I.

HUNTINGBURG (HPD) – A local man was arrested early Sunday morning after he was found slumped over in his parked van.

Huntingburg police say 48-year old Ricardo Carbajal of Huntingburg was arrested at about 6:30 Sunday morning charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.

HPD says a woman who was leaving her home in the 1100 block of Jackson Street to go to work, reported a suspicious vehicle that had been parked and left running in the neighborhood.  Moments later police say they found Carbajal slumped over the steering wheel of his van.

HPD says 0fficers could not get Carbajal to wake up until they opened the door and turned off his vehicle’s engine.

Police say they smelled the odor of alcohol when they opened the van.  HPD says Carbajal failed field sobriety tests and was then taken to HPD headquarters for a certified chemical test where he tested.   HPD says his blood alcohol content was .11%.

JASPER MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG-RELATED CHARGES

JASPER (JPD) – A local man was arrested Saturday after police responded to a call of an unknown male in an unrented room at the Jasper Econolodge motel on South U. S. 231.

Taken into custody 19-year old Carlos Hernandez of Jasper. JPD says before they arrived on scene, Hernandez fled the motel on foot. He was located and detained in front of Fifth Street School at about 3:30 Saturday afternoon.

Hernandez is charged with misdemeanor counts of Possession of a Synthetic Drug and Possession of Paraphernalia.
