Melba L. Gerlach, 86, Huntingburg

Melba GerlachMelba L. Gerlach, 86, of Huntingburg, died Saturday (January 24) at CORE Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dale. She was born January 8, 1929, in Huntingburg to Homer
J. and Mable M. (Cato) Stillwell. She married Marvin Gerlach June 28, 1958 in Dale. He died December 28, 2014.
Melba retired from General Electric after more than 20 years with the company. She later worked at the Huntingburg Dairy Queen. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, and growing flowers. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. She was a 1947 graduate of Huntingburg High School. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and V.F.W. Post No. 2366 Auxiliary; and a supporter of the Humane Society.

She is survived by four sisters-in-law, Joan Oxley and Pat Hedinger, Jasper, Marilyn Mayo, St. Louis, Missouri, and Bernice Gerlach, Huntingburg.

A Mass of Christian Burial at noon (EST) Wednesday at St. Mary’s with burial following in the church cemetery. Father Ryan Hilderbrand will officiate. Friends may call from 9-11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Memorial donations can be made to St. Mary’s Church or to a favorite charity.
