Dennis A. Sermersheim, 89, Jasper

Dennis SermersheimDennis A. Sermersheim, 89, of Jasper, died Thursday (January 22) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. He was born in Jasper November 17, 1925, to Cornelius and Clara (Bachman) Sermersheim. He married Pauline E. “Sis” Goodman May 25, 1950. She died April 23, 2014.

Dennis was a cabinet maker and retired from Indiana Furniture Industries in 1989 after 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Jasper American Legion Post No. 147. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine. He was a lifetime member of the Celestine Community Club. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and mowing his grass.

He is survived by one son, Kevin W. Sermersheim and wife Nancy, Jasper; two granddaughters, Jamie Fleming and husband Ryan, Jasper, and Amber Sermersheim and fiancé Brad Kramer, Huntingburg; one great-grandson, Kasen Fleming, Jasper; and one brother, Donald Sermersheim and wife Joan, Rockport.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Thereesa Pfister, and one brother, John Sermersheim.

Services at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church with entombment following in the Fairview Cemetery mausoleum. American Legion Post No. 147 will conduct military gravesite rites.
