Former Providence Home CNA Now Facing Sexual Battery; Other Charges

JASPER (NNDC) – A former Ceritfied Nursing Assistant (CNA) has been charged with Class D felony counts of Sexual Battery, Battery with Injury and Intimidation.

The arrest of 44-year old Joyce Curtis of Dale is the latest in a state attorney general investigation into various allegations at the former Providence Home Health Care Center.  The center has since been bought and is now the Cathedral Health Care Center.

Curtis is alleged to have performed what are described in court documents as several “lewd acts” in front of fellow employees after she was found unconscious on the floor of a resident’s room back on May 25, 2014.

The state attorney general’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit reports that Curtis also committed certain sexual acts on the resident and threatened him if he told anyone about it.

The resident told state investigators Curtis hurt him while she allegedly restrained him.

Meanwhile, six other people were arrested back in February of 2013 in connection with a state investigation intalleged patient abuse at the former Providence Home Health Care Center.  Charges were dropped against two of the original six who were arrested.
