Marilyn Habig Schultheis, 73, Evansville

Marilyn SchultheisMarilyn Habig Schultheis, 73, of Evansville, died Tuesday (January 20) in Evansville. She was born in Jasper June 8, 1941, to Arnold and Mary Ann (Jahn) Habig.

A 1959 graduate of Jasper High School, Marilyn graduated from St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame and Villa Schifanoia in Florence, Italy. She taught elementary school in Esquipulas, Guatemala, Boonville, and Evansville, and secondary art at Bishop Knoll Institute in Hammond. She worked at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art, did home visitations as a Hospice volunteer, and volunteered in local elementary schools. She loved traveling, often to exotic locations, and fulfilled a lifelong dream by visiting Anghor in Cambodia. She returned frequently to her adopted home town, Florence, Italy.

She is survived by one son, Joab Schultheis and wife Jenn; one daughter, Lea Unfried and husband Benjamin; 11 grandchildren, Jacob, Luke, Peyton, Lillian, Cecilia, William, Sabina, Greydon, Rosemary, Hope, and Grace; two brothers, John and Doug Habig; and one sister, Barbara Habig.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo B. Schultheis, who died December 18, 2014, one brother, Thomas Habig, and two sisters, Nancy Ruth and Margaret Ann Habig.

Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Alexander North Chapel. A special remembrance is scheduled at 2 p.m. A private family Celebration of Life and burial will be held at a later date.
