JASPER (NNDC) – As expected the Jasper City Council Wednesday night gave its approval to a hike in the city’s wastwater treatment rates.

The hike will raise the average homeowner bill about $5.00 a month.

The installation of a new 1.2 million ultraviolet filtration system at the city’s wastewater plant and a recent rate study prompted the increase.

Its been two years since waterwater rates were increased in Jasper. Jasper officials say even with the increase, Jasper’s wastewater treatment rates remain among the lowest in Indiana for comparable-sized cities.
