CORYDON, Ind. (WLKY-TV)  — Interstate 64 eastbound and westbound is shut down in Corydon at mile marker 101 after a cattle truck overturned.

The truck was carrying 88 cows and overturned around 5:15 a.m.

It is unknown at this time how many cows died, but 22 of them are alive and have been rescued.

Nine of them got loose, and one of the loose cows was hit by a semi.

The semi is divided into four sections by metal partitions and crews are working to remove the twisted metal to free the rest of the cattle.

WLKY is told the dead cows will be processed for meat at a nearby facility and the meat will be given to charity.

The roadway is expected to be shut down for several hours.
