Local Man Seriously Injured In Sunday Single-Vehicle Accident

BRETZVILLE (NNDC) – An elder rural Huntingburg man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident on icy road conditions near the intersection of Indiana 64 and Indiana 162 (known as Bretzville Junction) Sunday morning.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says a pickup truck driven by 84-year old Kemmel McKim was eastbound on Indiana 64 at about 8:45 Sunday morning slid off the highway and went down an embankment before striking a tree.

DCSD says McKim lost control of the pickup on a patch of “black ice” on the highway.   The accident happened about 900 feet west of the junction.

DCSD says McKim was trapped inside the truck and had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the St. Anthony Fire Department.

McKim suffered possible rib fractures and a right foot injury.  He also complained of pain to his chest and left shoulder.  He was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Jasper before being transferred to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville where he is listed in critical condition Monday morning.

DCSD says the accident shut down Indiana 64 about an hour.
