JASPER (NNDC) – An Indianapolis man is in custody in Dubois County charged with child exploitation and voyeurism.

27-year old Mark Upton was arrested in Indianapolis on a warrant out of Dubois Circuit Court.

He is charged with two Class C felony counts of child exploitation and two Class D felony counts of voyeurism after he allegedly secretly videotaped two girls, under the age of 14, showering and using a bathroom at a Ferdinand motel last spring or summer.

Upton was arrested after an investigation was started by the Perry County Sheriff’s Department in early December. This after a leaning lady at the Comfort Inn on U. S. 231 at I-64 in Ferdinand found what she thought was a normal writing pen was actually a camera with an SD card for storing video. The investigation also included Indiana State Police, the FBI and the Indianapolis Police Department.

State police and federal officials are not commenting on the specifics of the investigation.

The girls are not from the local area.

Upton was booked into the Dubois County Security Center Thursday afternoon where he remains on a $3,500 cash bond. Upton made an initial appearance in Dubois Circuit Court Friday.
