Wendell BuseWendell G. Buse, 92, of Holland, died Wednesday (January 7) in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born near Holland December 6, 1922, to Oliver and Elsie (Meyer) Buse. He married Vivian Martha Katherine Wellemeyer August 4, 1946, at Holland. She died January 21, 1999.

Wendell was a retired mechanic. He worked for the Holland Garage, Holland Dairy, and Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holland where he taught Sunday school and served on the church council. He was a lifetime member of Holland American Legion Post No. 343; enjoyed outdoor activities on his farm, was an avid coon hunter, and an Indiana University basketball fan. He served during World War II as an Army combat medic in the 97th Infantry in the European theatre from 1943 to 1946.

He is survived by two sons, Gary Buse and wife Donna, Richland, and David Buse, Holland; two daughters, Vickie Hungate and husband Bill, Las Vegas, Nevada; one-in-law Daniel Lindauer, Pagosa Springs, Colorado; one brother, Esto Buse and wife June, Holland; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Lindauer, two brothers, Andrew and Henry Buse, and five sisters, Bernice Siebe, Geneva Gee, Marjorie Rothert, Dorothy Hildenbrand, and Betty Neukam.

Services at 3 p.m. (EST) Sunday at St. James Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Cindy Geisen will officiate at the service. The Holland American Legion Memorial Detail will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Saturday at the Nass and Sunday Funeral Home in Huntingburg, and from 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
