Frieda I. Stewart, 92, Jasper

Frieda StewartFrieda I. Stewart, 92, of Jasper, died Thursday (January 8) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was the last survivor of the Lechner family. She was born January 4, 1923, in Montgomery, to Joseph and LaVina (Wininger) Lechner. She married Clyde E. Stewart December 27, 1945. He died August 10, 1997.

Frieda was a homemaker and member of First Presbyterian Church in Jasper and a past member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed collecting dolls and cookbooks, trying new recipes, and embroidery.

She is survived by one son, Clyde M. “Monty” Stewart and wife Louise, Jasper; daughter-in-law Rosemary “Rosie” Stewart, Celestine; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Several nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Elmer Stewart, one grandson, Joseph Stewart, four sisters, Mary Moots, Marguerite Sermersheim, Rose Connner, and Virginia Petry, and two brothers, Leonard and Carl Lechner.

Services 1 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church with burial following in Portersville Cemetery. Pastor Jim Neely will officiate. Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the church.
