UPDATE: Victim Identified In Fatal Petersburg Accident Tuesday Afternoon

PETERSBURG (NNDC) – Authorities have released the name of the person killed in a Pike County crash last night.

The Pike County Sheriffs Office says at about 6pm yesterday, 76 year old Lloyd Overby of Petersburg was traveling north on State Road 61 near County Road 400 North when he lost control of his Chevrolet after hitting a patch of ice.

Officials say Overby’s vehicle crossed the center line and slammed into a Toyota driven by 37 year old Ryan Fox of Winslow.

Overby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fox and the other two young passengers in his vehicle were flown from the scene by medical helicopters.

PETERSBURG (NNDC/WTVW) – Indiana State Police say one person has died in a Tuesday afternoon accident in Pike County.

The accident happened around 5 p.m. at Indiana 61 and County Road 400 North just south of Petersburg.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Department says  icy conditions are to blame in a fatal accident Tuesday evening.

PCSD says a 76-year-old man driving south of Petersburg on Indiana 61 when he lost control of his vehicle on ice.  His car then crossed the center line of the highway and collided head-on with a northbound vehicle.

PCSD says the man died from his injuries.  Meanwhile, a second man and two young girls were lifeflighted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

PSCS says the names of those involved in the accident will not be released until later in the day on Wednesday.

The accident did shut down Indiana 61 for several hours.  It reopened later in the evening Tuesday night.
