DALE, IN (NNDC) – Holiday Foods’ six southern Indiana stores have been purchased by Dale-based Winkler, Inc.

Holiday Foods operated six supermarkets in Dubois, Spencer and Gibson counties as well as Christmas Lake Golf Course in Santa Claus.  The golf course is also part of this deal.

Winkler Inc. is a wholesale grocery company that also owns and operate seven Wessleman’s Supermarkets in Evansville and one in Mt. Vernon, Ind.  The company closed its Huntingburg location back in 2011.

Holiday Foods was incorporated in 1969 by Lloyd and Ruby Winkler.  The following year, the couple’s son Russ Winkler and his wife, Linda, opened their first Holiday Foods in Santa Claus.

“I am encouraged that Winkler Inc. has chosen to purchase Holiday Foods and through its present leadership, Josh and John Winkler will continue the Holiday Foods footprint that my family and I have strived to establish over the past 45 years,” Russ Winkler, president Holiday Foods, said in a news release.

The news release also says the 300 people employed by Holiday Foods have been offered employment with Winkler Inc.
