Local Man Arrested After Wielding Machete During Fight (BLOTTER)

HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – A Huntingburg man faces several charges, including two felonies, after a fight that happened early New Year’s Day morning.

Taken into custody was 51-year old Juan Morales Sacaray.

Huntingburg police responded to Morales’ apartment in the 600 block of East 5th Street to a fight in progress involving a machete.

When police arrived shortly after 3am Thursday, they found Morales at the apartment and in possession of a machete.

Police say they also found several strikes to a door of the apartment home that appeared to have been caused by a machete.

Morales was arrested for battering 28-year old Pedro Roberto Diaz Lopez who also lives in the apartment with Morales.  HPD says Lopez was not struck by the machete during the encounter between the two men.

Morales is charged with Intimidation (a Level 5 felony), Criminal Recklessness (a Level 6 felony) and Battery (a Class A misdemeanor).

CELESTINE TEEN NOT SERIOUSLY HURT IN NEW YEAR’S MORNING ACCIDENT

CELESTINE (NNDC) – A Celestine teen was injured, but not seriously, in a one-vehicle accident New Year’s Day morning.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 16-year old Stefanie Archer was driving north on Indiana 545 near the intersection of Ellsworth Road when when she was distracted by a food item that fell in her car causing her to look away from the road.

The car then went left of center and then off the roadway and down an embankment when it came to rest.

Archesrs complained of pain to her shoulder and back.  She was treated at the scene of the accident which happened at about 6:40 Thursday morning.
