Eleanor P. “Ellie” Eckert, 88, Jasper

Eleanor Eckert Eleanor P. “Ellie” Eckert, 88, of Jasper, died Monday at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born December 22, 1925, in Schnellville to John and Barbara (Fritz) Schuch. She married Adolph (Bill) Eckert July 22, 1947, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, He died October 11, 2004.

Eleanor and her husband operated Eckert’s Tavern in Jasper until 1987. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the St. Ann’s Society, Daughter of Isabella, and the VFW Auxiliary to Post #673 in Jasper along with other service organizations.

She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Jane Brooks and husband Jeff, Kennilworth, Illinois; three sons, Leonard Eckert and wife Peggy, Jasper, Jon Eckert and wife Barbara, Louisville, and Tom Eckert and wife Becky, Evansville; and seven grandchildren

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, James “Gus” Eckert, one granddaughter, Yvette Michelle Eckert. four brothers, Isadore, Victor, Theodore, and Leo Schuch, and three sisters, Leona Berg, Delphine Schnell, and Mary Rose Ankenbrock.

Services at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. A rosary led by the D of I and St. Ann Society at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity.
