UPDATE: Third Occupant In Car Involved In Fatal Accident Located; Investigation Continues (AUDIO)

JASPER (NNDC) – One person was killed and a passenger was injured in a single-vehicle accident northeast of Jasper early Sunday evening.

Stuart Wilson with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened in the Kellerville area along North 125 East just north of East 300 North shortly before 6pm Sunday…

Wilson says deputies did find drug paraphernalia in the vehicle…

DCSD is in the process of notifying family members of both the deceased and the injured occupant of the car before releasing names.

DCSD says the car, a 2003 Dodge Neon, was traveling south on North 125 East when it went off the road and into a grassy field. The car then struck landscaping stonework before striking and breaking off a utility pole. The vehicle was found by deputies on its driver’s side. The pole and electric lines were laying across the car.

Dubois REC crews were called in to make sure the electric lines were disabled.

Deputies say the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger in the car was extricated from the vehicle. The passenger was first taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper before being transferred to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.

Wilson says deputies did locate a third occupant in the vehicle who a witness on the scene says was in the backseat of the car. That person fled the scene on foot and into a nearby bean field but was located later by deputies

Wilson says Dubois County Sheriff’s Department has expressed its sympathy to the family of the deceased.

He is also reminding all motorists to follow posted speed limits and to also use extreme caution when driving in inclement weather such as rain and snow. The accident happened during the height of the all day rain that fell locally.
