Ruth H. Klem, 80, Huntingburg

Ruth KlemRuth H. Klem, 80, of Huntingburg, died Monday (November 17) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in St. Marks May 29, 1934, to Theodore and Laura (Striegel) Bieker. She married Victor F. Klem July 29, 1950, in St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony.

Ruth and her husband operated Windell’s Restaurant in Dale for a number of years. She also worked at Gossard’s, Huntingburg Wood Products, Hoosier Desk, GentleCare, and Grandy’s Restaurant. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, crafting, gardening, and spending time with her family. She loved all animals and was an avid Indiana University basketball fan.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Victor F. Klem; five sons, Victor Klem, Jr. and wife Ann, Mariah Hill, and Richard Klem and wife Sonia, Theodore Klem and wife Gayla, and Douglas and Lawrence Klem, all of Jasper; four daughters, Norma Padgett and husband Jeff, Otwell, and Corma Knebel and husband Gerald, Barbara Eichmiller, Debra Gehlhausen and husband Scott, all of Jasper; two sisters, Marie Mullen, Kyana and Lauretta Prechtel, Santa Claus; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth and Laura Rose Klem, who both died in infancy; a son-in-law, George Eichmiller; one brother, Theodore Bieker, Jr., and two sisters, Bernice and Leola Bieker.

Services at 10 a.m. (EST) Friday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in St. Anthony Cemetery in St. Anthony. Rev. Fr. Ryan Hilderbrand will officiate at the funeral. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A parish rosary prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences may be shared online at
