JASPER (NNDC) – An anonymous donor has let NewsNow Dubois County and our media partner WTVW/WEHT know that he is making a donation to a fund for a local girl who passed away in September.

He tells us the donation is replacing more than all the money stolen from a donation jar at a Jasper convenience store November 1st.

Jasper police released surveillance video from the Sternberg Citgo store on Jasper’s far southside where the jar was stolen. (CLICK HERE TO WATCH OUR STORY WITH THE SURVEILLANCE VIDEO).

The video shows a man who was in the store for a rather lengthy period before walking out with the jar that was clearly marked as being for donations for a local family to help cover the funeral expenses of a family member.

The money was for young Lyric Hicks, who died in September.   She and her twin sister, Dailynn, were born prematurely. Dailynn continues to struggle with medical issues.

Back in September, friends of the family set up a donation website to help the family with medical expenses after the twins were born.

According to the website, the twins were born early and they both fought through complications, including numerous trips to the doctors, hospital, and ambulance visits.

After days of fighting congestion and breathing problems, Lyric passed away September 7th.

Shortly after Lyric’s death, friends asked that the donations also be used for Lyric’s funeral expenses in addition to medical help needed for her sister.

NewsNow Dubois County has also learned that the girls’ family did not about the jar that was placed at Sternberg’s until the story of its theft broke yesterday.
