JASPER (NNDC) – 23-year old Tabbitha Uppencamp was taken into custody early Sunday morning for alleged drunken driving. Jasper police pulled over an SUV driven by Uppencamp at a convenience store in the 1400 block of Newton Street at about 3:30am Sunday. The SUV matched the description of a vehicle wanted by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department for leaving the scene of a property damage accident earlier in the evening.

Immediately following the traffic stop, Jasper police charged Uppencamp with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after they say her blood alcohol content tested .09%. The OWI charge is a Level 6 felony because this is the second time she’s been arrested for the same offense in the last five years. She was convicted of OWI back in 2011.

After being taken into custody by JPD, DCSD charged Uppencamp with a misdemeanor count of the leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

DCSD says the accident occurred at the intersection of County Road 325E and Indiana 164.

Deputies say Uppencamp’s SUV skidded through the intersection before traveling into a private yard just south of the intersection. DCSD says Uppencamp’s SUV left a 42-foot set of skid marks on the highway.

DCSD says after ending up in the yard, Uppencamp then drove another 258 feet through the yard continuing up a rock embankment and then back into the yard before getting back on to the highway.

Damage was estimated at $2,000 to the SUV and $500 to the private property.
