JASPER (NNDC) – There’s a new deputy on the force at the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

She is two-year old Karma. Karma is a black German shepherd trained in narcotics detection including marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin.

She is the partner of DCSD deputy Jesus Monarrez who started raising the needed money for Karma about a year ago…

Monarrez says he is grateful for the generosity of local citizens, businesses, and organizations in Dubois County. He says their contributions allowed the sheriff’s department to purchase and train Karma.

He says an anonymous donor is paying for food for both Karma and Judge and Hasenour Veterinary Services is donating their vet care.

Monarrez says Karma joined DCSD about a month ago and Karma has already been instrumental in several drug-related arrested.

Karma is the second police dog on at DCSD. The other is Judge. Judge is the partner of Deputy Brad Kendall.

With Karma now on the job, DCSD has drug-tracking dogs now available 24 hours a day.

Jasper police also have a K9 named Ares on ther force. Indiana State Police at Jasper also have a K9.
