HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – A Huntingburg couple was arrested early Sunday night after an argument the two were in while they were driving ended up with both of them being taken into custody for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Huntingburg police say they were called to the 200 block of East 3rd Street at about 7:30pm Sunday for a suspicious female who was crying for help.

The woman, 42-year old Dawn Renee Schmidt, told police she had been in a verbal argument with her husband while the two of them were in their car earlier. She says she left after the couple arrived at their home in the 200 block of East 2nd Street.

It was a the Schmidt home where HPD made contact with 46-year old Thad Schmidt. It was also there HPD says they detected an odor of burnt marijuana coming from the home. Schmidt agreed to let officers in the home to talk about the altercation, but later refused the officer to search the home after police discovered a multi-colored glass pipe on a nearby coffee table with what police say was burnt residue in it.
