HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – A Huntingburg man was taken into custody early Saturday morning after police responded to a stabbing in progress at a local bar.

Arrested was 31-year old Justin Taylor. Witnesses told Huntingburg police that Taylor had been escorted out of Ron’s Place three times around midnight, but twice he came back. On the third attempt, 46-year old Lonnie Blades, Jr. accompanied Taylor out of the establishment.

Police say once the two men got outside, Taylor pulled a knife and began stabbing at Blades. HPD says Blades, who is also from Huntingburg, tried to get the knife from Taylor; instead Blades was slashed across his left hand. It was then that Blades struck Taylor in the face to stop him from slashing the knife at him.

Witnesses say Taylor attempted to flee the scene on foot, but several individuals caught him before he could get very far and held him down until HPD arrived on scene.

Taylor was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for medical clearance. His blood alcohol content tested at .316%.

Taylor has been charged with battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. Both those charges are Level 6 felonies in Indiana. He’s also been charged with misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, and public intoxication.
