FERDINAND (NNDC) – Forest Park Marching Ranger senior Olivia Voegerl is the latest local high school band member to be selected for the U. S. Army All-American Marching Band.

Voegerl, who plays clarinet, has been selected to be a member of the 2015 U.S. Army All American Marching Band which selects only 125 high school students each year.

Brian Prato is the marching band’s coordinator.  He says Olivia was nominated last year by her band director at Forest Park, Chad Gayso.  She then was selected from a very detailed selection process.

Prato says the 125 selected are collectively, a very high achieving group.

Olivia was recognized for this prestigious honor during a special convocation Tuesday at Forest Park’s Buechler Arena where she was given a jacket by members of the U. S. Army.

Olivia has been a member the Ranger band that has won two Indiana State School Music Association State Championships, one when she was a freshman and again last year.

Olivia will perform with the band at the All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas January 3rd. The game features the top high school players in the country.

Voegerl will travel to San Antonio in December to practice with the other band members as they prepare for the Alamodome performance.

Olivia is one of only four selected from the state of Indiana for the 2014 U. S. Army All-American Band.  Two of the others are from Center Grove High School in Greenwood; the other is from Castle High School in Newburgh.  She is the first from Forest Park selected for the band.

Last year, Bradley Gehlhausen, of Jasper High School, was selected for the 2013 band.  Gehlhausen was the first local high school student/band member ever selected.
