JASPER (NNDC) – Saturday’s local effort in the National Prescription “Take Back” Day netted more than 360 pounds of drugs, including 30 pounds of prescription pill bottles.

Sgt. Philip Hensley with the Indiana State Police Jasper post calls the effort a “great turnout” by the local community.

There were five ‘drop-off’ sites.  They were the state police post in Jasper, the three fire stations in Jasper and the two in Huntingburg.

Hensley says the pill bottles turned in will be used by area Catholic churches to recycle into park benches.   The plastic bottle tops will be given to the three local Catholic schools for recycling projects.

Tri-Cap Family Planning personnel also volunteered Saturday at the drop-off locations.
