Gun Theft Lands Huntingburg Man In Jail

HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) — Huntingburg man has been arrested for stealing a .44 caliber rifle from a local business Sunday morning.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 22-year old Michael S. Harris was found inside LeClere Manufacturing, Inc. on South U. S. 231 by the company’s owner at about 10:30 Sunday morning. The owner told DCSD that Harris drove off in a pickup. The owner says he later discovered the rifle missing from his vehicle.

DCSD recovered the rifle which was found along Phoenix Drive west of U. S. 231. Harris’s truck was later located by officers behind the Dollar General Store on North Main Street (U. S. 231). Harris was later located at the Huck’s Convenience Store at 6th and Main.

Police recovered the rifle, which had been discarded along Phoenix Drive, west of U.S. 231. Officers then located the suspect’s truck behind the Dollar General Store at 1710 N. Main St.

Harris is charged with a Level 6 felony count of Theft, and a misdemeanor count of Unauthorized Entry of a Motor Vehicle.
