Gregory J. “Greg” Vogler, 60, Downers Grove, Illinois

Greg VoglerGregory J. “Greg” Vogler, 60, of Downers Grove, Illinois, died Friday (September 26) at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He was born in Jasper March 15, 1954, to Martin and Louise (Hopf) Vogler. He married Maria Schuler July 7, 1979.

Greg was a 1972 graduate of Jasper High School and was honored as an outstanding alumnus in 2014. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree, with honors, from Purdue University in 1977, and earned his JD, with honors, from DePaul College of Law in 1984. In addition to serving on DePaul University Dean’s Council and DePaul University’s Intellectual Property Advisory Board, Greg received The Outstanding Service to DePaul University Award in 2007. In 1988, He co-founded McAndrews, Held & Malloy, where he specialized in patent, trade secret, and trademark litigation. He had a successful career as a patent litigator and was named a “Leading Lawyer in IP Law” by the Leading Lawyers Network and received the Chicago Top Lawyers Award, Illinois Top Lawyers Award, Illinois Super Lawyers Award, and National Leading Lawyers in IP Award. His community service included serving as an elected commissioner in Downers Grove, chairman of the Downers Grove Heritage Festival, chairman of the Downers Grove Zoning Commission, and chairman of the Downers Grove High School Building Referendum and Library Addition Referendum. He also served on the board of directors of the local YMCA. His service to women’s issues included serving on the board of directors for Downers Grove Care and Counseling Center, and founder of Mary Jane’s Hope, a foundation devoted to helping abused women and children. His interests and hobbies over the years included serving as president and coach of the Downers Grove Nomads Youth Basketball Club, president of the Downers Grove Roadrunners Youth Soccer Club, and founder and coach of the St. Mary’s Grade School Cross-Country program.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Vogler; three sons, Nathan Vogler, Washington, D.C., Drew Vogler, Indianapolis, and Alex Vogler, West Lafayette; seven sisters, Linda Giesler, Jasper, Georgina Rowland, Bargersville, Carol Schmitt and husband Mike, Ireland, Nancy Foerster, Chicago, Judy Steiner and husband Tom, Carmel, Chris Harmon and husband, Dave, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Kathy Whitten, San Diego, California; four brothers, Rev. Ken Vogler, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bill Vogler, Sanibel, Florida, Rich Vogler and wife Wai Ling, Captain Hook, Hawaii, and Tony Vogler and wife Kathy, Jasper; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Cordon, and one brother, Donald “Marty” Vogler.

Services at noon Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial following in Shiloh cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the church.
