Wild Ride Lands Florida Man In Jail On Felony Charges

JASPER (NNDC) – A Florida man left a local bar early Thursday morning and then when a ride on a stolen bobcat front loader before ending up passed out inside a medical building on West 2nd Street.

Jasper police arrested 29-year old Korey Groover of Davenport, Florida early Thursday morning.

Davenport admitted to police that he did not remember anything after he left J. R.’s Bar on South Clay Street shortly after two o’clock Thursday morning.

Police say Groover drove the bobcat north on Clay Street before turning onto West 2nd Street. Police say the bobcat knocked down street signs and struck light poles along the way. The bobcat was found outside the medical building at 695 West 2nd Street. Groover was found inside the building passed out inside one of the building’s offices.

Police say a broken door on the east side of the building was broken to gain entry. Police say they found a syringe in one of Groover’s pockets along with keys to the bobcat.

Groover was taken to Memorial Hospital where his blood alcohol content was tested at .18%. Groover is charged with Burglary (a Level 5 felony) and Possession of a Syringe (a Level 6 felony). He’s also charged with a misdemeanor count of Criminal Mischief.

JPD says damage done to the street signs and the medical building an estimated $9,800.
