Betty J. Brown, 87, Jasper

Betty BrownBetty J. Brown, 87, of Jasper, died Wednesday (September 17) at her home. She was born in Indianapolis June 27, 1927, to Harry and Gladys (Whaley) Peak. She was raised at her uncle’s farm in Bretzville.

Betty was a 1945 graduate of Jasper High School. She married Clarence R “Brownie” Brown April 8, 1948, in Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church in Jasper. He died December 20, 2012, after 64 years of marriage. She worked at the Television Center in Jasper and retired from OB/GYN Associates in 2010 at the age of 83. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper. Her hobbies included mushroom hunting and playing cards with friends.

She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Mathies and husband Darren, Jasper; two sons, Dr. Terry Brown and wife Betty A., Jasper, and Marvin Brown and wife Misty, Fishers; nine grandchildren, Krista, Jonathan (Jeb), Katie, Kelsey, and Nathan Brown, Jayme (Brown) Beadle, Nikki (Brown) Hershik, and Claire and Emily Mathies; four great-grandchildren, Mitchell Brown, Henry and William Beadle, and baby boy Hershik due within a month; one sister, Mildred Peak Berry, New Albany; and two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Peak, Franklin and Clarice (Brown) Preslopsky, Orlando, Florida.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Peak Abell, and two brothers, Frank and Earl “Bud” Peak.

Services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Church of Christ with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. Pastor Jane Hillman will officiate. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.
