FORT WAYNE – Jasper Street Commissioner Raymie Eckerle received the 2014 Ivan H. Brinegar Municipal Management Award from the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT).   Eckerle received the award on Wednesday, Sept. 10 during the Presidents’ Reception at the 2014 IACT Annual Conference & Exhibition in Fort Wayne.

The Ivan H. Brinegar Municipal Management Award is presented to an appointed municipal official with a minimum of 10 years of city or town service who displays strong leadership, and contributions to the community and serves as a role model to citizens and other municipal officials.

In his 14th year as Jasper’s Street Commissioner, Raymie Eckerle is devoted to public service.  In addition to his long-time role with Jasper, Raymie spent 14 years managing the Huntingburg Airport and three years on the Jasper City Council.  He’s an avid learner, demonstrated by his activity in the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns and membership and two stints as President of the Indiana Street Commissioner’s Association.  Eckerle is known for his hands-on approach and passion for keeping Jasper’s streets safe and clean.

“Consistently, the City of Jasper is complimented on its appearance by residents and visitors alike. As Street Commissioner, Raymie leads the department most responsible for this effort. He simply gets things done and done well. It was only natural to nominate him for this award.”

In its 38th year, the IACT Annual Awards program, presented by Umbaugh, recognizes communities and individuals in municipal government for excellence and outstanding achievement.  An eight-member panel of qualified judges selected this year’s winners from a competitive field of nominees from around the state.

The Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) is a coalition of municipal officials who seek to improve the quality of life in Indiana through effective government, and is a member of the National League of Cities. Founded in 1891, IACT is one of the oldest state municipal organizations in the country, with 464 cities and towns as members.  IACT advocates for municipalities as the official voice of municipal government in Indiana, and promotes good government through education, training and leadership.
