Five Escape Serious Injury In Accident West Of Ireland; All Were Wearing Seatbelts

accidentFive people, including three passengers in one car, escaped serious injury in a two-vehicle accident west of Ireland Wednesday night.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says cars driven by 18-year old Kaylan Meyer of rural Dubois and 64-year old Kenneth Dant of Washington, IN collided along Indiana 56 about a 1/4 mile east of North 600 West at about 10:15pm.

Meyer told DCSD he was attempting to pull out of a private drive and go east on 56, but says he did not see the approaching Dant vehicle. The front of Dant’s vehicle struck Meyers vehicle on the drivers side. Both vehicles came to rest partially in the roadway.

Dant complained of chest pain and his three passengers in his car all complained of pain. All four refused treatment at the scene.

The passengers were 64-year old Steven Fields, 56-year old John Stader and 60 year old Dennis Solliday, all from Washington.

Meanwhile, Meyer was transported to Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment of neck pain. Both vehicles were a total loss. DCSD says the use of seat belts by all five people in the accident greatly reduced the severity of the injuries.
