FERDINAND – Two long-time vacant buildings at the Monestary of Immaculate Conception could have new tenants in the near future.

The Sisters of St. Benedict at the Monastery are wanting to renovate Benet Hall for a new senior living housing unit at a projected cost of $4.1 million. Benet Hall has been vacant for several years now. It would be remodeled into 15 two-bedroom apartments for seniors on Social Security.

Last week, the Sisters of St. Benedict announced they were also considering leasing the Monastery’s also vacant former art studio building. The proposed lease would be to private investors wanting to use the space for a potential specialty brewery.

Monastery spokesman Greg Eckerle says both projects present win-win opportunities for the Town of Ferdinand and for the Sisters of St. Benedict…

Eckerle acknowledges there are a lot of steps needed before either proposed project would become reality.

The town is hosting two special meetings in the coming weeks regarding the Benet Hall project. Those meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, October 7th and Monday, October 27th. Both meetings get underway at 5pm; both are also open to the public.
