HUNTINGBURG – A four-year old boy was seriously mauled by a family pet pit bull Monday afternoon.

Huntingburg police assistant chief Ronnie Bowman tells NewsNow Dubois County they don’t know what provoked the pit bull which is a family pet.

The boy, 4-year-old Terrance Perez of Evansville was at his grandfather’s house at 505 East Seventh Street in Huntingburg. The grandfather, Bennett Perez was not home at the time of the attack.

Young Terrance suffered severe facial and scalp injuries. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper where he underwent surgery Monday night.

The boy’s mother 32-year old Danielle Wigodinski, who Bowman says is believed to reside at the home on Seventh Street address, was present at the time of the attack.

Bowman says the dog is owned by either Perez or the boy’s father.

The dog was taken from the home by the Animal Control Team of Dubois County and is now in isolation.

So far, no charges have filed but Bowman says the incident remains under investigation.

The boy’s mother has posted photos of her son after the mauling.  We must warn you the photos are very graphic.
