Cellphone Store Employee Charged With 11 Counts Of Theft

lawlessJASPER — A local cellphone store employee has turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

30-year old Jeffrey Lawless of Jasper (picture) turned himself in Monday night at about 9:30pm.

The warrant charges him with 11 counts of theft at his former employer, The Cellular Connection, 3780 Newton Street in Jasper, after store officials found 30 missing ‘smartphones’ from the store’s inventory.

Jasper police say their joint investigation with The Cellular Connection found that Lawless manipulated invoices to show that the missing phones were purchased by customers who were fabricated.

Police say the thefts took place during the months of June, July and August of this year.

The charges are Level 6 felonies under the state’s new criminal code.  The value of the missing smartphones totaled nearly $17,500.

Lawless is free on bond from the Dubois County Security Center.
